Members of Indivisible Common Ground WNC gathered to demonstrate their concerns for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) at noon in front of the Jackson County courthouse fountain Wednesday, Jan. 24.

The DACA demonstration was the first for the group, which has applied for a series of permits
with the Sylva Police Department to hold weekly protests.
“We’ve been meeting for a whole year, but there’s a hunger for people to feel like were doing something,” said Betsy Swift, a founding member of Indivisible Common Ground WNC.
The group invites anyone to join them.
“We have lots of concerns. A lot of us are concerned about the environment, taxes, DACA, immigration issues and healthcare,” member Joan Parks said. “Each week we will determine a current issue that we want to work on and try to inform the public about it.”
The group plans to demonstrate at the courthouse fountain in downtown Sylva every Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. for at least the next six weeks.
