Western Carolina’s women’s basketball team was crushed by Chattanooga Lady Mocs in the first round of the SoCon tournament Thursday, March 2, at the US Cellular Center in Asheville. The final score of the game 85-41.
The game started out competitive, but soon the Lady Mocs went full-throttle and scored 30 points in the first quarter. The Lady Catamounts struggled to score, and managed to only score 8 points.
The Lady Cats continued to struggle in the second quarter scoring only 7 points, while the Lady Mocs continued to have their way putting up 19 points against the Catamounts.
The Lady Mocs made 7 3-pointers in the first half. At the half, Chattanooga led Western 49-15.

At the beginning of the second half, the Catamounts came out more aggressive, playing tough defense against the Lady Mocs. Unfortunately, Chattanooga’s team was far too skilled against the Cats and being able to put up 22 points. At the end of the third quarter, Chattanooga’s bench put 26 points which was the same amount of points WCU had.
In the fourth, the Lady Catamounts continued to fight, outscoring Chattanooga in the fourth quarter with 15 points. But it was bitter as the Lady Mocs at one point led the game by 52 points in the fourth quarter.
Junior guard Sherrie Bonner and Sophomore guard Raziyah Farrington led in scoring for the Catamounts each putting up 8 points.
Chattanooga’s head coach Jim Foster applauded the way his team played.
“We did a great job out there. We moved the ball very well and made a lot of great shots out there,” Foster said.
Chattanooga’s next game will be against UNCG Friday at 11 am.
