Western Carolina University’s track team came out on top in the Beynon Sports Surface Catamount Classic in Cullowhee on April 16.
Beynon Women’s Top finishers:
- Western Carolina University 246
- Marshall University 150.5
- Dayton University 123
Junior thrower, Hailey Cook finished first in the shot put throwing for 15.34 meters.
“My performance today, I’m pretty happy with the shot put,” said Cook. “Cale’s [McDaniel, Western Carolina Assistant Coach] been working hard with me. We’ve changed a few things up and it’s starting to click.”
Other WCU Women’s notable finishes:
- Holly Gaines took first in the heptathlon.
- Tayla Carter took first in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash.
- 4 x 100 meter relay (Mia Little, Bri Anna Adams, Tiffani Lewis and Tayla Carter.

Freshman Hurdler, Dylan Andrade finished first in the 400 meter hurdles for Western Carolinas Men’s team.
“I recently been running like 53 seconds and my coach was like, ‘If you get a 53.9 you’ll go to Junior Nationals,” said Andrade. “So that was pretty much the goal coming in.”
Andrade ran the 400 meter hurdles in 53.31 seconds; allowing him to go to Junior Nationals.
Other WCU Men’s notable finishes:
- 4 x 400 meter relay along with Dakota Lamont, Justin Kenard, Henry Kiedy and Dylan Andrade.
- Henry Kiedy finished first in the 400 meter dash.
- Jamie Brown finished first in the long jump.
- Christian Carswell finished first in the men’s decathlon.

“I feel like our kids have come out and did a great job of representing Western Carolina,” said Head Coach of Western Carolina’s Track team, Danny Williamson.
Western Carolina’s track team will travel down to Georgia Tech on April 22 for a two day meet.
