Story of a ‘Gypsy’ is about to unfold

The story of gypsy’s is soon to unfold at Western Carolina University. Put on by the School of Stage and Screen the classic musical “Gypsy.”

The production is scheduled to show at the Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. April 14 through Saturday, April 16 and 3:00 p.m. on April 17.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and WCU Faculty and Staff and $10 for WCU students. Tickets can be purchased by visiting or calling the Bardo Arts Center or online.  

Kylee Verhoff junior musical theater student of Western Carolina University is cast in the production as Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee in the musical.

“I (Louise/Gypsy Rose Lee) begin very young in the show and progressively age, so in my point of view it’s a journey of growth. I begin very shy and naive and blossom into a confident women who is ready to bat for herself at any moment and doesn’t rely on anyone for her success,” Verhoff said towards describing her role and the musical.

On April 16 before the play the Friends of the Arts is doing a fundraiser benefiting WCU students of the College of Fine and Performing Arts. The money raised that night will go to scholarships and to the program. The fundraising includes free open event with a silent auction, raffle and wine cork pull starting at 5 p.m.. Also starting at 5 p.m. is an invitational gala also with silent auction, complementary cocktail hour, wine cork pull and raffle and with a gourmet dinner at 6 p.m.

With this being the last show in the Mainstage Season, make sure to buy your tickets for “Gypsy” and see the final bang of the 15’-16’ season.
