The 2nd annual Women’s Leadership Conference is this Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 in the A.K. Hinds University Center. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the conference is free to all WCU students, $10 for faculty, and $25 for the public.

Valeisha Butterfield Jones will be speaking on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Geneva Reed Veal, mother of Sandra Bland, will be speaking on Saturday from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.

The theme for the conference is “Agents of Change.” They will explore how women can transform oppressive experiences into opportunities for empowerment and positive change.

“I think that women need opportunities to experience and witness peers and role models in leadership positions. I am a feminist and active in the women’s empowerment movement. My field of study, recreational therapy, was founded and is continuing to be promoted primarily by women, and I look forward to hearing form a variety of WNC women on important issues so that it may enhance my education and career. I believe the next wave of social change lies on the shoulders of powerful women,” said Lena Presley, a student at WCU who will be attending the conference.

Today is the last day to register!
