The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Cullowhee and Biltmore campus areas, effective from Monday, Feb. 16, 7 a.m  through 7 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Any changes to Western Carolina University’s early-morning class schedule will be posted on the university’s weather announcements page and distributed by email by 6 a.m. Cat Tran schedule changes will be posted on the same page.

In the email message from WCU Emergency manager, Tammy Hudson said:

“The exact timing, precipitation types, and totals for this storm system continue to fluctuate. However, several of the models have precipitation starting as snow Monday and continuing throughout the evening / overnight hours and tapering off Tuesday morning. Please remember the weather forecast changes rapidly in the mountains and it’s critical to monitor the news and weather forecast throughout this winter weather event. All staff, faculty and students are also reminded that road conditions in our area vary greatly and you should frequently check conditions in your area and for your intended destination before deciding to travel.”

In the same message WCU reminds that the university does not typically cancel classes due to weather conditions.  The Department of Public Safety monitors road conditions throughout severe weather events and updates the Provost regularly.

Jackson County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow.
