Mangas Colorado, a well-known Apache tribal chief from the 1700s, was an inspiration for a local band from the mountains of NC. The band got their name, Mangas Colorado, after reading the book Bury my heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown in August 2013 while Jarrod Couch, vocalist and banjo,  and Thomas Allison, vocalist and guitar, were life-guarding at the community pool in Sylva.

From that hot summer day, Mangas Colorado bloomed. They have played many different venues in different locations.
The boys have grown together not only as a band, but as a family. Their philosophy on whether or not their band will succeed was simmered down into one simple statement: “If we make it a mile, awesome. If we make it across the country, awesome. But we’re doing it together.”
