In a press release from NC governor Pat McCrory on October 22, North Carolina college students can look for paid internships in the 2014 State Government Internship Program Booklet.
North Carolina residents attending a university, college, technical institute or community college can apply for the $8.25 an hour, 40 hours a week, 10 week program until December 16.
Sixty-five programs are offered across the state. Internships are a great way for students to achieve real world, practical skills and experience in the field they wish to study in.
“Paid summer internships are available in locations across the state. They provide North Carolina students with compensated professional work experience that integrates education, career development and public service. Opportunities exist in numerous recognized fields of study, from accounting to zoölogy, and interns will also participate in seminars, tours or other activities designed to broaden their perspective of public service and state government,” it states in the press release.
To be eligible, students must be a North Carolina resident with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students must be rising juniors or seniors and must be continuing their education in the fall after the internship. Students that have previously held paid internships with the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office are not eligible.
The Internships will run from May 27, 2014 to August 1, 2014.
According to the press release, students are chosen by a review of their applications by the NC Internship Council, interviews with prospective supervisors, interest in the government, academic records and participation in extracurricular activities.
