The worst free-throw ever

Appalachian State University’s Brian Okam made quite possibly the worst free-throw attempt ever in a Southern Conference men’s basketball game against Western Carolina University on Saturday, Dec. 8, which WCU won 70-64.

Okam, a junior at App State, is the team’s reserve center and is 7 feet tall, according to AOL Sporting News.

Okam dribbled twice and shot the ball at the basket, not even making it halfway. A teammate caught the ball. The whole stadium was in shock.

“I’m not sure what that was. Good Lord,” said TV62 announcer Phillip Jackson, speaking for everyone in attendance.

Okam actually made the previous free-throw attempt, the only point he scored out of his four attempts at baskets during the game.  According to AOL Sporting News, Okam is a 55 percent free throw shooter in his three-year career, including his freshman year at Rutgers University.

TV62’s YouTube video of the horrendous free-throw went viral over the weekend, briefly becoming the most popular item on Reddit and being featured on Yahoo, USA Today, and the Los Angeles Times. It has been viewed over 8.6 million times as of Tuesday, Dec. 11.
