WCU hosts first Open House of the year

Western Carolina University will host its largest-ever open house for future students this Saturday, Sept. 15.

The open house will start in the Ramsey Center at 8:30 a.m. and carry on around campus throughout the day. About 1,800 prospective students are expected to attend, according to Patrick Frazier, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission.

Current students will be helping with the open house, taking the possible future students on tours, checking them in, and showing them majors they may be interested in. Attendees will receive a t-shirt, $7 meal card, and campus brochure upon arrival.

“I am excited to have this many students coming,” said Brittany Marksberry, a WCU student, telerecruiter, and campus tour guide. “It will be crazy to have almost a group of 100 to myself.”

WCU’s student body has reached record numbers this year with over 9,600 students enrolled, a 2.7 percent increase from fall 2011.

“WCU is growing as a campus. The students coming to open house are excited to see our new Health and Science building. I believe this will be a great eye-catcher for future students,” said Bailey Pierce, who has worked as a telerecruiter for four years.

Anyone interested in attending WCU in the future can sign up for the open house online at the WCU website. The event will run until 3 p.m.
