PRSSA: Not just for PR junkies

Meet some of the WCU PRSSA members.

Western Carolina University has something that no other schools in the nation currently possess: the benefit of having the National President of the Public Relations Student Society of America in our very own backyard, Lauren Gray.

There are many membership benefits for PRSSA, such as enhancing your education, broadening your networks, and helping launch your career. The WCU chapter does fun activities together such as chatting with professionals to receive advice and counsel, attending conferences out of town, planning special events and much more.  This student organization is not just for PR majors but for anyone who would like to expand their horizons and broaden their career path as professionals.

“PRSSA is a great organization for any student because of the preparation it gives you for a real job and the important life lessons you learn,” said Lauren Gray, National PRSSA President. “Having the opportunity to meet people across the country, travel to different states for conferences, learning from the best industry professionals, networking with professionals, gaining access to an exclusive Internship Center and having the opportunity to write for a national publication are all things that advance students and put them ahead of the rest.”

Last semester, members of WCU PRSSA attended a National Conference in Charlotte, NC. While the members attended a series of educational conferences during the day, they bonded with other members from around the country in downtown Charlotte during their free time in the evenings. The relationships developed at the National Conference gave the students an opportunity to gain experience and make connections that otherwise would never have been created.

This year, WCU PRSSA plans to host resume-building workshops, press release work, mock-confrontations and more. If you are looking for an organization that will benefit your future while at the same time help you meet new people and have a good time, take PRSSA into consideration.

“PRSSA is a great organization to join for students of all professions because it not only provides you with real world experiences such as public speaking opportunities and networking opportunities, but it also provides the connection to have fun and develop life-long friends,” said Dillon Slattery, president of WCU PRSSA.
