It’s that time again – time for the annual Valley of the Lilies half marathon and 5k Sunday, March 25. The half marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k starts at 7:45 a.m.

The course for the half marathon will be a scenic one, featuring rolling hills on the campus of Western Carolina University and along the Tuckasegee River in Cullowhee, N.C. It will begin on campus before going out onto parts of highway 107 and Old Cullowhee Road. The 5k course will be around various parts of the campus including a trip up and down the Village slope and the new fountain in the center of campus.

Registration fee for the half marathon is $60 and the 5k fee is $25. All proceeds of the race will go to students at Western Carolina University to assist in professional presentations and travel expenses to conferences.  There are 321 participants from 14 states registered between the two races with two days left to register.

Valley of the Lilies is being hosted by the School of Health Sciences and the Department of Campus Recreation. Coordinator for Informal Recreation & Student Development, Sandy Terhune, also serves as Co-Race Director for both races. “We are very excited for the number of people participating,” Terhune said. “We hope it will be a very fun and challenging event for everyone involved.”
