It’s a common site around Concord every May and October, overwhelming tourism and overwhelming traffic, and its all for one thing : NASCAR.
Concord, NC has a population of 73,000 and according to the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau ranks 12th in travel impact. Cabarrus County alone generated $281.09 million in tourism.
According to Chad Runion, Guest Services and Training Coordinator at Charlotte Motor Speedway, there are 120 fulltime staff at the speedway but every race weekend the track must hire an additional 1600-1800 workers.
And thanks to Charlotte Motor Speedway , the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau noted, “Each Cabarrus County household would pay $310 more in taxes” without the revenue of the Speedway.
