Honoring Catamounts, one brick at a time

The Catamount Legacy Walk, although it sounds like a charity walk, is a program set up to honor alumni, students, faculty and staff, and friends of the university, one brick at a time. The Legacy Walk will eventually be a collection of customized bricks placed on campus to commemorate Catamounts.

The Legacy Walk will be put in place near the Alumni Tower in groups of 300 bricks at a time.

Each of the bricks costs $125 which includes two lines of engraved text. Although no bricks have been laid so far, the fundraiser is kicking up into high gear and bricks can be expected to be laid soon.

According to a press release provided by Western Carolina, the first group of bricks will hopefully be laid before spring commencement.

Once the bricks are laid, a map of the Legacy Walk will be available to donors to help locate their bricks.

The Legacy Walk is a program started by Student Affairs to help fund the WCU Student Emergency Fund. Eighty percent of all proceeds from the Legacy Walk fundraiser will go to the WCU Student Emergency Fund. The other twenty percent of proceeds will go to brick maintenance and maintenance of the Alumni Tower.

The WCU Student Emergency Fund is a fund to help students in dire need of financial support. According the Emergency Fund web page, the fund will help students who are suffering from temporary financial hardships because of unexpected emergencies.
