The Western Carolina Catamounts men’s basketball team was picked to finish 3rd in the Southern Conference as the preseason polls were released this past week.

Also, sophomore point guard, Trey Sumler was named to the preseason all-conference team for his stellar play from last season.

Western Carolina loses guard, Mike Williams and forward, Richie Gordon but they return Sumler along with major contributors from last year’s team. They include guards, Harouna Mutombo, Keaton Cole and Brandon Boggs along with forwards, Preston Ross and Tawaski King who look to bolster the frontcourt.

Larry Hunter returns as the head coach of WCU and has posted a 599-324 record in his 31 years of coaching. This will be his 7th year with the team.

The Catamounts who finished last season with an 18-15 (12-6 conference) record, look to start off their season strong as they travel to South Carolina on Friday, November 11.
