WCU Football Media Day

The Catamounts start their season this Thursday, September 1, 2011 when the Cats hit the road to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, Georgia.

The weekend before the start of the seeson the WCU Catamounts Western met with the local media. The focus on all the players and coaches minds was getting back to a winning attitude that this team has failed to find in years past.

Western Carolina Football head coach, Dennis Wagner, feels that the team has turned the corner and is ready to get back to winning football in his fourth season at the helm.

Senior defensive lineman, Walt Woolwine joked around and asked the media what they would be doing if not here.  One person said drinking a cold beer.  Woolwine shook his head and said he would not know what to do without football.

“I know only one thing, and that’s football,” Woolwine said.  “And I think that’s what is going to help us this year. There is hope for this season and we have a chance.”

The Catamounts have a home schedule against Mars Hill, Furman, Elon, The Citadel, Wofford, and Coastal Carolina.  Their away schedule is against Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Chattanooga, Samford, and Appalachian State.

The media day was not all about the tough schedule, winning football games and never-ending interviews.  There was also a lighter side to the day, which was full of laughter and having some fun.

The day closed with team and senior pictures and sophomore defensive lineman, Pete Balthrop Jr. took time to give the cameraman a “We Will Beat App” chant before they departed.
