Western Carolina University celebrated Earth and Wellness day on Wednesday, April 13. The event featured live music, health screenings, more than 30 local vendors, stress relief games, free food and a farmer’s market.

The event, themed “Live Well, Live Clean,” lasted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the lawn of A.K. Hinds University Center, and was free and open to the public.

The festivities kicked off at 10 a.m. with live event coverage on Power 90.5. At 11 a.m., Holly Taylor, assistant director of Student Community Ethics, sang and played acoustic guitar in a show called “Holly Unplugged.” Then at 12:10 p.m., Brandon Tigue, assistant director of undergraduate admission, led a Latin-inspired Zumba aerobics class. The music continued at 1 p.m. as participants from the Dillsboro Drum Circle hosted a drum circle on the lawn. The closing ceremony took place at 3 p.m.

Throughout the day, attendees were also able to purchase fresh produce and community supported agriculture shares from regional farms. In addition, faculty and staff were able to purchase a lunch featuring healthy foods and local ingredients at Courtyard Dining Hall.
