The Second City comedy tour coming to WCU

The Second City is coming to WCU Feb. 17

Have your parents ever told you not to discuss a certain topic at the dinner table? If so, there’s a good chance that such a topic, and many more, will be made fun of on Thursday, Feb. 17 when The Second City, a famous Chicago comedy tour, will be coming to WCU to perform in FPAC at 7:30 p.m.

The legendary sketch comedy theatre will be performing some of their best sketches, songs, and improvisations of their fifty-year history. After 50 years of satiric variety shows, The Second City continues to deliver the leading voices in comedy while touring all over the world.

“I hope students recognize the rarity of bringing this group here because it is so famous,” said Assistant Director of University Programs, Lori Davis.

Second City’s theme, Fair and Unbalanced, takes unrestrained comic pleasure in the shortcomings of politicians, celebrities, and any institution you can think of. No one is truly safe from Second City’s satiric eye as its comedy takes you on a ride through present day America.

“If you like Saturday Night Live or MadTV, then you will love this show,” said Davis.

With both scripted and improvisational elements, audiences are able to enjoy being part of the show and playing along with possible future generation of comic legends. The Second City alumnus includes many prominent comedians such as: Joan Rivers, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey and countless others.

Fair and Unbalanced is sure to deliver a funny perspective on the struggles of everyday life. Spending an evening with A Second City would not only allow the audience to see comedy stars in the making, but they will also have the opportunity to experience, hilarious cutting-edge improvisation.

“This is the best comedy you will ever see,” said Davis. “You will hopefully be able to see up and coming stars before they are made famous.”

Tickets for The Second City are $5 for students, $10 for everyone else and can be purchased at the FPAC box office at 828-227-2479. For more information, contact Lori Davis at 828-227-3622 or find the Arts and Cultural Events Facebook page at ACE @ WCU.
